The Festival in 2006 took place 29 June-3 July. The Design Show saw over 150 students display their final year project work. The event attracted over 1000 visitors over the three days and preview evening.
The legendary TV presenter Johnny Ball, best known for popularising science and mathematics, said he was thrilled to formally open the Festival of Design & Innovation 2006.
"It's wonderful, the most heartening thing to see all these amazing projects" said Ball who visits schools up and down the country to spark young peoples interests in science and technology. "If everyone could see how well thought out and presented these projects are, we'd have more people thinking 'I could do that' and encouraging them to follow in the students footsteps".
The Festival, hosted at the Talbot Campus, featured the first public display of over 150 new designs with potential for commercial applications across a range of industries including automotive, household, health, engineering, sport and leisure and environmental. The event saw over 1000 visitors during the three days and preview evening - the biggest that the event has ever seen.
The Festival also displayed past students work that has been commercialised through BU Innovations including Fran Conrad's Quick Pitch Tent and Dan Quare's Loft Lift.
The Festival team and Bournemouth University would like to say a big thank you to the event sponsors: Institute of Directors, Link Wessex, Aimhigher, Avonwood Developments Ltd., DEK Printing, Hamworthy Plc., South West Regional Development Agency, Dorset Business and Sunseeker.
