Three DEC students chosen as IED prize winners

The Institution of Engineering Designers has chosen three DEC students to receive the prestigious IED Prize. The scale of this achievement is demonstrated by the fact that only 11 individual prizes were given in total.

The prizes winners are Peter Honeyands and his Seastar X1 project from Computer Aided Product Design, Tom Davidson and his Purity Toilet Brush project from Product Design, and Jared Hall and his Hydroheel Yacht Stability System project from Design Engineering.

The prize winners will each receive a certificate, which will be presented at this year's graduation ceremony, a glass trophy, and one year's free graduate membership to the IED.

All IED-accredited courses were able to nominate one student for an IED prize. However, each student nominated should have achieved a first class grade for their final year project. Each nominated project report was assessed by a sub group of the IED's Education and Training Committee, before the final 11 winners were decided upon.

QuickPitch voted number 1 Festival Accessory

Franziska Conrad's pop-up tent has achieved yet more success after being voted number one festival accessory by Channel Five's 'The Gadget Show'. The programme rated the top five essentials needed at a Festival, with Franziska's pop-up tent coming out on top.

'The Gadget Show' host Jason Bradbury said: "Gone are the days when you need to spend hours banging tent plugs in with a hammer till your arms ache. This convenient tent will magically pitch up in a matter of seconds. While others around you are struggling to make their tent stand up, you'll be curled up warm inside away from the mud and rain."

Franziska is currently taking part in the Flying Start Global Entrepreneurs programme, after becoming the third BU design student to win a place on the prestigious scheme, following in the foot steps of Computer Aided Product Design graduates Simon Phelps and James Reed.

Postgraduate International Student Information Guide 2009

Hot off the press, the Postgraduate Guide is BU's first tailored postgraduate prospectus for international students.

The Guide combines School and course information together with general advice on how to apply, our entry requirements, tuition fees and scholarships, accommodation and lots more!

The Postgraduate Guide follows in the footsteps of the Undergraduate International Student Guide produced in June. These publications replace the general International Students Information Guide and individual prospectuses, and offer international students more tailored information, specific to their needs.

Copies of both have already been distributed to British Council offices worldwide and International Representatives will receive their copies in the next two weeks. The Guides will also be distributed at overseas exhibition and events during the next few months.

The Guides provide a colourful and attractive information source for prospective BU students and a very useful recruitment tool for BU staff and International Representatives alike.

If you would like to request a copy of either Guide please contact: internationalrelations@bournemouth.ac.uk
