Olympic Achievement

Bryce Dyer recently won third place at the Paralympic GB sports science national conference. Held at Loughborough University, this was a keenly contested event, in light of the London 2012 Games. Bryce’s poster paper was entitled ‘A Fair Provision of Lower-limb Prostheses Technology for Paralympic Level Running.’ The papers were judged in terms of both potential contribution to sport, defence, and presentation.

Psychological success

Year 2 Psychology student Gaby Pfeifer won the undergraduate section of the Psychologist’s Annual Student Writer Competition. Her essay on the psychology of food choice will appear in a forthcoming edition of The Psychologist. Gaby is very pleased to have won, and is looking forward to attending the British Psychology Society student lectures in London.

Robotic revelation

Packaging Today has published Venkey Dubey’s thoughts on the impact robots have on consumer packaging. The research is part of a project that the Smart Technology Research Centre is working on. Staff achievements in 2009

Roger Baker has been invited to write book on post-traumatic stress disorders, and also recently obtained a grant for £4,995,000 from the National Institute of Health Research, to run a Research Design Service within Dorset NHS trust.

Jacqui Taylor has been appointed as Associate Professor and Chair of the BPS Division of Psychology Teachers & Researchers.

Paul Stevens has obtained a BIAL Foundation grant and been invited onto the World Wide Fund for Nature "Strategies for Change" programme. He was also on the programme committee for the Parapsychological Association Convention 2008 and on the editorial team involved in creation of a new Journal of Ecopsychology.
